Even my black has been replaced by a raw clip -it's really confused. It just seems like there should be enough information for Resolve to figure out what I'm trying to do so it's pretty frustrating. I don't THINK the timecode got fucked up, but I will find out later tonight or tomorrow when I have a chance to work on it again. It's a short that I'm working on, so although this might be a tough lesson, it won't be the end of the world for me. But copying it to TC2 and the name to the LINK column (note that this is a different filename than what comes up in the “Tape” column) seems to stabilize the data and it translates back without a problem for us. I don’t know why but it appears that the AAF that media Composer generates isn’t cricket and all that, so the timecode column doesn’t translate properly. You now have two pieces of information required to round-trip back into resolve.Ĥ) When you import your AAF into Resolve select the “Link” and “Auxiliary TC2” column as your match information and it should all come up right as rain. Then select the timecode “Start” column and copy that to the “Auxiliary TC2” column. Create a column called “LINK.” Once that’s done then select the “Name” column and copy that to the newly created “Link” column (Cmd-D). In our experience those seemed to mess up the metadata more often than not.ģ) Okay, now you have the bin and the media in it. We did not use an AAF file to import the media. Because we selected “Use Source Filename” you should have data in the “Tape” column now. Then we’d drag that into a bin to populate it with our clips. Then we’d start Media Composer and let it build an msmMMOB.mdb database file. Here’s what we did to get a proper round-trip:ġ) We found that exporting from Resolve as MXF OP-Atom using the “Use Source Filename” option worked best.Ģ) We’d create a media files sub-folder and drag those MXF files into it. So check to see if your timecode matches. If you find that it has, you’re pretty much fuckered and have to start over re-transcoding everything. In certain situations, usually having to do with AMA, the Avid WILL change the timecode of your clips (I had Avid tech remote my system for over three hours and even they couldn’t figure it out). First and foremost: Verify that the media clips in Resolve and the clips imported into Avid Media Composer have the same timecode. It was a soul destroying nightmare.Īnyway, there’s a couple things you can look at. We had this very same problem last year on our feature and we found no other solution but to re-transcode the entire show and overcut what we’d already edited.

Can they not rewrite their stupid code already? Most of the problems are directly a result of Media Composer’s inane legacy of identifying media based on tape names. The handshaking between Avid and Resolve can be a fuckton of pain. Looking for something more local?
